A Moment with Julia.

Today, while in the fan area at Heart Fields Assisted Living, I met a 99 year old Caucasian woman named. This woman has most of her natural teeth, all of her own hair and great posture. Seated at a small square table, she walked directly to me, accompanied by a walker and said, "You're just gorgeous, how old are you...about 20?". With a warm smile on my face, completely taken by surprise I responded, "Thank you! So are you. I'm 19". She really was gorgeous. I even remember her saying "Oh, you don't have to return the compliment". However, I really meant it.

We conversed for a bit about her life and mine. Talked about how she'd traveled the world alone after her husband died. Her husband didn't like to travel. Shortly after, I was called by a woman for my reason being where I was. It was time for me to leave the conversation. Another elderly woman took a seat beside the woman. Have you ever watched a mother having to sneak off from her infant while they were occupied so they won't notice her leaving and begin to cry? I had to do that today because I didn't want her to feel like I didn't enjoy speaking with her. Luckily after returning to the room where this elder was, I made it my business to say goodbye to her. This is when I found out her name, Julia.

To many of you this may seem really simple but I had to blog about it because it's one of the small moments in life we talk about that are supposedly cherished. Let me remind you of something. This woman after 99 years of existing here on Earth (since she's been around the world) is still 'in love' with life. She talked about how so many of her peers in the building looked as if they were tired. Tired of living, I guess. I want to remind you what she reminded me of today. Never get tired. Never walk with your head low. YOU are the important person. Let everyone else know it by the sway in your walk. Walk like you know where you're going when this 'life' is over.

Create your own picture in your head of Julia's physical appearance. Remember though, when visualizing her heart, now that it's coated with gold. Know too, that when traveling the world we all speak the same language. Emotions.

Today was by far an emotional one.
