Yesterday was a special one. The “Don’t Hate, Celebrate! Fashion Show” happened here in Richmond! The experience alone- I must say -was liberating and inspiring. I don’t say that only because of the local talent on the runway and stage, but because 26 year old quadruple amputee show coordinator, Lindsay “Lu” Ess touched many people yesterday-in more ways than one.
Finally reaching a five year long term goal of wanting to entwine fashion and diversity (age, race, sexual preference and body type) in a runway show is just one point on the checklist of “Lindsay’s Long Term Goals”.
I’ve renamed that list. “Tasks I’ve Accomplished with No Hands”. The ‘Don’t Hate, Celebrate! Fashion Show’, unfortunately, is Lindsay’s last show in Richmond-so she says. (laughs)
I’d like to think it’s Lindsay’s last show in her present condition. I know myself, along with other models from Richond Fashion Week will reunite with “Lu” (As her mother likes to call her) to hit the runway again. Lindsay’s present condition won’t be present for long. She is leaving to University of Pennsylvania for hand transplants. Excitement doesn’t fill the blank of emotion I have for her.
